Just Because...

A couple of days ago I did the Just Because poem with my students. They loved it so much and turned out to be so imaginative! Well, I never doubted that but it was so much fun to see them doing classwork with so much pleasure! They gave me permission to publish them on our blog. I had a hard time choosing which ones to publish, and actually it's difficult to say which of them are the best. So I picked three of them just because...:) Look at them:

***
Just because we can’t be victorious
Doesn’t mean we can’t fight
Just because our homeland is burning
Doesn’t mean we have no home
Just because we have no future
Doesn’t mean we will be forgotten
We must fight with them here
To give our friends time we must die
We will live in history forever
We will be immortals…
Now we stand, mortals, we stand in line
Now we stand, mortals, we just must die…

And another one:

***
Just because I smile
It doesn’t mean that I feel good
Doesn’t mean I am happy
Doesn’t mean I do not worry
Appearances can be deceptive.
Just because I hide the sadness
It doesn’t mean I don’t have problems
It doesn’t mean I don’t cry
I just play…

And this one:

***
Just because I’m a natural blonde
It doesn’t mean that I’m stupid
Just because I say nothing
It doesn’t mean that I don’t have my own opinion
Doesn’t mean that I’m shy.
Just because I’m sad sometimes
It doesn’t mean that I’m not strong enough
It doesn’t mean that it’s easy to make me cry.
No one has a heart of stone
And everyone can be sad sometimes
Often
Usually…

I'm so proud of my students!!!
I’m looking forward to doing grammar poems with them as most of them don’t like grammar very much. Perhaps they’ll finally find it interesting…
I also did my ‘American dream’ lesson last week incorporating ‘Inside Outside’ and now I have a lot of correcting to do as today they handed in their complete stories. Thankfully, I’ve already prepared the rubric which should make the process much easier ;D

  1. I loved the poems! Especially the last one :D What a great idea! I made my students write their own "Where I'm from" poems and was also amazed at how excited they were and how hard they worked on their poems. I might post a couple of their poems next week :)
